Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on
January 19 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was the daughter of Avie Lee
Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton was a housewife and Parton
is a farmer of the tobacco. At the age of 12 she was already on Knoxville TV.
At 13 she was already recording for a small label and performing at the Grand
Ole Opry. After having graduated from the high school in 1964, she relocated to
Nashville for the start of her country-singing career. She fell in love with Carl
Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving firm. They were married on May 30, 1966 and are
still together. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to sing on his show The Porter
Wagoner Show (1961). The show lasted for 7 years, their duets gained fame and
she was a part of his group at the Grand Ole Opry; she also toured and sold
records. When her smash hit "Joshua" reached the top spot in the year
1970, her popularity had overshadowed his, and she struck off on her own even
though she recorded duets with him. In 1974, she left her husband to pursue a
solo artist. Dolly achieved immense fame as a songwriter/singer. Dolly was
awarded many Country Music Association awards (1968-70, 1971-1972, 1975-1976
and 1976). The petite (5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. By the
mid-1970s, she was appearing regularly in TV specials and talk shows and prior
to having her own Dolly (1976). Dolly was awarded her first Grammy award in
1977 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly made her film debut in 9
to 5 in 1980. The film was nominated for an Oscar for the song that was the
title in addition to Grammy Awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female
Country Vocal Performance. The fame continued to grow with her appearances in
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and as in Rhinestone (1984) in which
she sang the song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton
Enterprises is her media empire, worth $100 million. In 1986, she founded
Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was to
commemorate her Smoky Mountain upbringing. She appeared in the TV show Dolly
(1987 TV series) as her character. For "Trio", she won the Best
Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
